For someone who doesn’t watch a lot of TV this is 2 in a row for me. I think I am fascinated at the public’s confusion with how this is not a documentary.

I think both the Purge movie and this are both documentaries, fight me.

The initial eyebrow raise of this season was the concept that Serena was reformed. Spoiler Alert – she is not ….exactly.

Serena Joy as she is written in the show is a woman of strong ‘faith’ who also has narcissistic character traits who thinks that she can save Gilead. She is also a bitch who will karen on you if your objection does not match her goals. She never deviates from that and even in episode 8 doesn’t really cave on it either.

Serena was infatuated with her proximity to power if she married Commander Wharton so she does. Her illusion is shattered when hubby #2 brings her a Handmaid. She thought that because she was white and blonde and ‘beautiful’ and fertile that her ‘man’ would not fall into the trap of patriarchy. They almost never do, and Wharton showed himself, Serena chose to not see it. Sure he might not be as creepy and self serving as some of the other Commanders but that doesn’t make him a good man. He was still willing to use and abuse the women in Gilead for his own pleasure and prosperity. The last episode has her out ‘running’ away, but where and to whom? The thing about women like Serena is she cannot exist simply being – she also needs to be in power to be revered and a part of her still believes in the version of Gilead where God save the womb. Mind you that god save the womb means sex slavery but gotta keep up the birthrate right?

In the prior few episodes we reached the possible conclusion of the Nick/June love story and the Internet is bitching that Nick is being turned into a villain. He’s always been a villain, he is as Luke called him…a Nazi. He might not the the architect of Gilead like Commander Lawrence, but I would argue he is more important. The people with the ideas cannot implement then without the support of the masses and Nick was the masses. Mediocre yt man feeling a little lost because despite ok looks is single and is broke but he doesn’t think he should be even though he has no degree and limited experiences…sound like anyone? The Internet is full of Nicks right now. Some are more aggressive than others but the aggressive ones are not who we should fear, it is the Nicks the quiet ones willing to play along because they think it will benefit them, and in his case it did.

Serena and Nick are why DJT is at 1600 Pennsylvania right now.

Let also not pretend that yt women loved Nick in part because the idea of the fertile yt woman in love with Luke the Black man is a no-no.

Season 6 is showing the reality of what happens when you chase supremacy and power. Season 6 is showing who you really are, not allowing you to hide behind tropes and good intentions. Season 6 is the last season for this show and up next is the Testaments. 15 years into the future where a version of Gilead still exists and the ‘resistance’ continues.

I see so many who somehow think despite the 2nd show this will somehow end happy. Even if there wasn’t another show coming it is illogical to think in 2 more episodes Gilead falls, they collect Hannah and live happily every after.

This show ends with June dead, most likely also Luke dead since one of the Testaments characters is raised by adoptive parents. Spoiler Alert n’shit

This final season does have issues with pacing etc but there isn’t any upending of these characters personality, this is always who they’ve been
